becoming fully alive in the movement of Jesus…

God is not looking for alms, God is looking for action. - Bono

thank full

Nov-27-2008

serenitysymbolI love Thanksgiving Day. It’s a great day of family, friends, food and football. And oh, yes…the Dallas Cowboys. But I digress.

Sometimes it’s hard to be thankful when everything isn’t going your way. Just like you might say, my life’s not perfect either. Not everything has “worked out” the way I dreamed it would. Even recently, my wife, Jenny and I have had some bad news come my way concerning the adoption process we’ve been in for almost 3 years. It’s been genuinely hard to deal with.

But I have more to be thankful for than to be depressed about. Sometimes I emotionally want to choose to be a “glass half-empty” person but I believe that the blessings of God demands that we choose to be a “glass half-full” person.

The scales definitely tip to the blessings side in my life. Today, as I’ve thought about God’s blessings in my life, my questions began with things that assert that God has a problem. I soon realized that God may want to ask me why I’m so selective in remembering all that He’s done for me.  Then I wondered what it would be like if God showed me all the things He’s protected me from. There is suddenly a half-full glass before me.

I encourage you to be thankful. It doesn’t mean you have to ignore the bad or pretend that circumstances are always good. But you have something to be thankful for. Maybe looking for it will help you see life differently today.

It has for me.
